In 2006, a grant was awarded to the Blue Ridge Rural Land Trust (now the Blue Ridge Conservancy) to help fund the acquisition of a restrictive conservation easement on property abutting the Blue Ridge Parkway below the Raven Rocks Overlook (MP 289). Although only 2 acres, the property was very important because of the high scenic quality of the site and its border with the 12-acre R. Kelly Coffey farm which had already been protected.
