Blue Ridge Parkway is most visited national park in 2022

According to the National Park Service, the Blue Ridge Parkway welcomed an estimated 15,711,004 recreation visitors in 2022, making it the most visited national park in the country yet again.

The scenic route saw more visitors than Grand Tetons, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, and Yosemite national parks combined for the same year. Great Smoky Mountains National Park hosted 12,937,633 visitors, while Shenandoah National Park saw 1,449,301.

Other numbers of note

  • Recreation visitation was down 1.5% over 2021

  • There were 65,152 tent campers and 42,475 RV campers

  • Since 1941, the Parkway has exceed 15 million annual visitors 34 times

  • Total visitation since 1941 is 963,441,733

Visitation in 2023 is already off to a strong start with 541,657 visitors in January, that’s 279,901 more than the previous January. February is up by 163,884 over the previous year.
