Formed in in 2009, Tuba Skinny has steadily evolved from a loose collection of street musicians into a solid ensemble dedicated to bringing the traditional New Orleans sound to audiences around the world. Drawing on a wide range of musical influences—from spirituals to Depression-era blues, from ragtime to traditional jazz—their sound evokes the rich musical heritage of The Big Easy. The band has gained a loyal following through their distinctive sound, their commitment to reviving long-lost songs, and their barnstorming live performances.
Brother and sister Giri and Uma Peters (age 14 and 12) are award-winning multi-instrumentalists who electrify audiences with their music and songwriting. Their musicianship and vocal harmonies showcase a level of creativity and originality well beyond their years. Their music is at the intersection of old-time music, bluegrass, and Piedmont blues. In 2019, the duo released Origins, their first album together.
Tickets are $20. Children 12 and younger are admitted for free. Season passes are also available.
Since 2013, the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation has supported musical programming at the Blue Ridge Music Center to help preserve the cultural heritage of the mountains.
