MORE FROM THE CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD

I hope that my thirty-three years with the National
Park Service will add to my ability to work with park management for the
benefit of the Blue Ridge Parkway. In my Park Service working career I
served in seven parks and in Washington, but my last twenty years was
as Superintendent of Independence National Historical Park. While at Independence
I was involved in the founding of the Friends of Independence (1972) so
I have an understanding of how the park and its partners can work together
effectively. From 1991-2001, I was President of Old Salem, Inc.in Winston-Salem.
I have an affinity for the Parkway for another reason; I have personally
known every superintendent of the Blue Ridge Parkway from Sam Weems to
Phil Francis, and I appreciate the contribution that each has made.
It is important that the park and its partners work together to face the
unique challenges of the future.
Thank you for caring about the Blue Ridge Parkway.
