MESSAGES
FROM
THE SUPERINTENDENT: It's hard to argue with the notion that the
education of children is essential to our collective future. Philosophers,
poets, pundits and politicians have expressed that idea for centuries,
and in countless ways. Aristotle once observed that, "The fate of
empires depends on the education of Youth." I tend to agree
with that statement and believe that it is certainly true of how our young
people will play an important role in the stewardship of the Blue Ridge
Parkway if they are taught to do so.
FROM
THE CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES: What an honor for me to
become Chairman of the Board of the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation and
attempt to add to the accomplishments that Pat Shore Clark has made as
your previous chairman. Pat remains on the board so that her council and
enthusiasm will continue to be with us.
FROM
THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR: "How did you end up taking this
job?" This has been the single most often asked question of my not-so-close
friends and acquaintances; but for those that know me, they see it as
natural. My first job was with the National Park Service almost thirty
years ago in Glacier National Park, Montana. The park service has been
in my blood ever since, to the point that it is now a second career.
