Note about the Gillespie Gap crew from William Hall:
Sam McKinney and Clyde McKinney were brothers.
Couch started working with a contractor and moved to the public roads. He was a truck driver and equipment operator.
Sam Garden was a tractor and mower operator. He was a seasonal employee and never worked permanent.
Pete Stout was hired from the outside and was a foreman for maintenance - a "mixed gang foreman"
Doyle Cline was a real fireman and worked as a ranger.
Sam McKinney started with the bureau of public roads and moved to the Park Service.
Virginal McKinny was a maintenance foreman.
Claude Wiseman was a construction foreman and directed the trail building and slope management.
Clyde McKinney was on the roadside cleanup. He was always the first man out and the last man in.
Raymond Woody was oringally a carpenter and came onto the maintenance crew.
Mitchell Hobson build rock fireplaces at the campgrounds.
Ernest Hayes worked the north end (the Blowing Rock Section). He left the Park Service and worked for a developer.
